We are excited to announce that WalkerHughes Insurance is proudly partnering with the Shalom House as our agency's ‘Charity of the Quarter’ in Quarter 4 of 2023.
About our Referral Program
At WalkerHughes Insurance, there is no higher compliment than a referral. A referral indicates that we have met the mark for our customers and that they are satisfied with the service provided. We are pleased when our customers trust us enough to recommend us to those closest to them. We know how important friends and family members are, and we promise to treat yours as if they were our own!
For every customer referring friends and family members that complete a no-obligation insurance review, we will send you a $5 coffee e-gift card as a token of our appreciation! As part of our referral program, we will also make a matching $5 donation to our agency’s ‘Charity of the Quarter’. The purpose of this program is to help organizations close to the hearts of our employees while providing our customers the opportunity to not only receive a coffee on us, but to also help a worthy cause by referring their friends and family. In addition, this also gives us the opportunity to promote awareness of these organizations in our communities through our online presence.
Why the Shalom House?
The Shalom House was nominated by WalkerHughes team member, Dan Lamar, as our agency’s Charity of the Quarter. Dan, former agency owner of Lamar & Lamar Insurance, is in a Business Development role out of our Lebanon office and very passionate about supporting his local community.
About the Shalom House
In the early 2000s, five Boone County community members looked around and saw new families were moving in, and new needs were surfacing. Families were hungry. Parents needed support. And they realized we all needed a closer, more caring community. So, in partnership with their church, they took a leap of faith, purchased an old home on Green Street in Lebanon, IN, remodeled it, and gave it a new name: the Shalom House.
Their mission is to share kindness and good will with the Boone County community by feeding people and encouraging the spirit. Their vision is to feed their community so that one day no one will ever experience hunger.
Shalom House Programs
The Shalom House provides Lebanon with two programs: the Hot Meal Program and the Kid's Sack Lunch Program. In 2022, their Kids’ Sack Lunch program served over 50,050 total meals and 21,255 hot meals were served. When we talk about the big work being done in small towns, those are some enormous statistics and a beautiful story of community members serving neighbors in need.
Hot Meal Program
The Shalom House began serving meals in the old Stokes school in 2003. Three years later, Shalom House moved to the corner of West and Green streets at 304 W Green St., where it continues to serve meals today. This little white house was renovated into a dine-in facility where free community meals are served weekly on Tuesdays, Saturdays and the last Thursday of the month. All are welcome.
Kid' Sack Lunch Program
During school breaks, volunteers pack hundreds of sack lunches and distribute them to families with children. These sacks contain enough food for a full week’s worth of lunches. This is no small endeavor as hundreds of meals are packed weekly and distributed throughout Boone County. As the program has grown and the Shalom House strives to provide fresh, healthy food, costs continue to rise. The cost to provide one week of food for Boone County children is $3,000 to $5,000 per week. Donations from churches, individuals, local businesses and organizations are instrumental to help make this program thrive. Volunteers from throughout the county donate food, money, and their time to pack and distribute meals.
